Irish Silver Tiara Brooch

silver tiara brooch (ireland) w/ stones Question: My 83 year old aunt has this old silver tiara brooch.

The sceptre is straight (not at the usual angle). It has a green cut stone (front and back) in the top of the scepter and two pink stones; one on each side of the brooch.

Irish Silver HallmarksEnglish Silver Hall-Marks: Including the Marks of Origin on Scottish & Irish Silver Plate, Gold, Platinum & Sheffield Plate: With 500 of the More Important … from 169 (Dealer Guides) (Dealer Guides)

Price: $6.34 USD

The backs of each stone are open so I can see they are cut.

Any idea of the age?

There are 3 hallmarks and initials on the back but I can’t really see them too well. The initials look like T.J.H. Any idea?

Thanks so much…

Answer: G’day and many thanks for your query

You are going to have to take it to someone who can see it, feel it, touch it and test it because if it is silver (NOT just silver colored) it should have a silver hallmark.

As your description doesn’t mention any hallmark I wonder if this is simply a piece of Costume Jewelry?

The gems may be green and pink - but they might be glass. You are not going to know until you have them tested. It might cost a small fee - but at least then you’ll know.

I can’t help because I can’t see it.

You might like to add this question to my blog at http://how2valuejewelry.com/ as someone else may have something similar - can’t hurt anyway.

Hope this helps.
